HAGL Chairman Doan Nguyen Duc revealed that requesting a number of matches for Cong Phuong to play in Belgium is not feasible
Today (July 5), striker Nguyen Cong Phuong will officially sign a contract with Belgium's Sint-Truidense V.V, making him the first Vietnamese player to play in Europe for a year.
Before signing the contract, Doan Nguyen Duc has revealed some information around the deal. Accordingly, the chairman of HAGL club said that they rejected the invitation of Clermont Foot 63 by the French team wanted to sign a 3-year contract with Cong Phuong.
"Clermont Foot Auvergne 63 wants to buy Cong Phuong for 3 years but HAGL disagrees. Our criteria is to sign year by year. HAGL has selected among many invitations for Cong Phuong from Japan, Korea and Europe. Finally, we chose the Sint-Truidense VV Club”, said Mr. Duc on Thanh Nien newspaper.
Cong Phuong failed at Mito Hollyhock (Japan) and Incheon United (South Korea). Therefore, Vietnamese supporters still worry for this trip to Europe.
Attaching the term Cong Phuong must be given a number of matches in Belgium to contract or not, Mr. Duc frankly: “HAGL once thought about putting in the contract the minimum number of matches for Cong Phuong but that is impossible. I can't force them”.
“The partner has paid money to buy Cong Phuong to make sure they want to use him because there is no way they spend money for no reason. But for whatever reason it is, that is their business. We cannot attach conditions to ensure Cong Phuong has a slot on the pitch”.
Thus, Cong Phuong will have to learn to live in Belgium during the period of foreign. This will be a huge challenge for Vietnamese national striker. However, Cong Phuong is also self-aware of this challenge and he is confident that he wants to be a leader, opening his way to Europe for Vietnamese players.
