Thai coach Akira Nishino expressed disappointment with the scoreless World Cup 2022 qualifier against Vietnam on Thursday night, noting that his squad wasted many chances.
Thailand dominated the game but failed to get the full three points and come away with a win at home.
“We expected a home win but only got one point. It’s a disappointing outcome. However, Thailand has 7 more games ahead, and we’ll fight until the end,” Nishino told reporters.
“I decided not to use any pure striker on the field. Thitipan played on the attack alongside Supachok, a small but skillful player. Both performed well today,” Nishino said in explaining his strategy.
“As Vietnam played defensively in the first half, we only rarely approached their goal and had to pass the ball as much as possible to make the Vietnamese players tired. In the second half, we used the long ball and created more chances. But we need to improve our finishing skills,” said Nishino.
Thailand will have 5 more days to prepare for a tough away game against Indonesia.
